Ohio Music Therapy Services provides a variety of music therapy services throughout Pickaway, Franklin, Madison, Union, Delaware, Fairfield, Perry, Logan, Athens, Vinton, Pike, Jackson and Ross Counties. Populations served include: Children and adults with Down’s Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, auditory and visual impairments, autism and other developmental disabilities; patients with medical issues; patients receiving palliative and hospice care; geriatric adults suffering from stroke, dementia, Alzheimer’s disease and other issues of aging. Private Music Therapy
Music therapy is a research supported allied health profession that uses music as a therapeutic medium to address cognitive, communication, social, physical, emotional and behavioral needs. Individuals of all ages across a myriad of diagnoses benefit from this unique, highly effective and enjoyable therapy.
School-based Music Therapy
Music therapy is a research supported allied health profession that uses music as a therapeutic medium to address cognitive, communication, social, physical, emotional and behavioral needs. In the education setting, music therapy is commonly provided as an IEP related service or as educational enrichment.
Music therapy can also be provided to students as educational enrichment for those students who demonstrate significant educational gains through music intervention, but it has not been determined to be vital to their educational success.
Sing, Learn, Grow! - Preschools and Daycare Centers
Sing, Learn, Grow! is an early childhood educational music program through which the student’s overall literacy, preschool curriculum and development is supported and strengthened. Classes are led by board-certified music therapists with specialized knowledge and training in early childhood, education, and musical development. Sing, Learn, Grow strives to increase both general and musical aptitude for all learners through fun and unique music experiences.

Group Music Therapy

For music therapy groups, music therapists design music interventions to meet therapeutic goals while capitalizing on the unique social opportunities the group setting creates.
Medical Music Therapy
Music therapy is a research supported allied health profession that uses music as a therapeutic medium to address cognitive, communication, social, physical, emotional and behavioral needs. In medical settings, music therapy can be an effective tool for addressing pain, anxiety, mood, and other symptoms to enhance quality of life and reduce the need for pharmaceutical intervention. Music therapy can provide benefits in both outpatient and inpatient settings.
Sprouting Melodies - Early Childhood Programming for Families
Sprouting Melodies® is an age-specific program of music classes for infants, toddlers, siblings and preschoolers. Through song, instrument play and movement, these classes stimulate and enhance musical, social, physical, and emotional growth and development. They also provide a learning-rich and supportive community for busy, multitasking families and caregivers eager to help their children flourish. All classes are taught by Board Certified Music Therapists who have been trained in the Sprouting Melodies program and have a passion for music and for helping children reach their potential.
Rehabilitation with Music Therapy
Music therapy is a research supported allied health profession that uses music as a therapeutic medium to address cognitive, communication, social, physical, emotional and behavioral needs. In recovery and rehabilitation settings, music therapy can reach individuals struggling with mental health crises, addiction, or experiencing current or recent incarceration to work on fostering meaningful self-expression and communication, cultivating new skills for personal growth, and supporting a seamless transition and reintegration into society.
Example Music Therapy Goals
Communication:
To decrease the tempo of spoken communication.
Objective: Client will decrease the rate of spoken communication from X to a rate of Y for 3 consecutive sessions.
Motor:
To improve gross motor functioning of upper extremities.
Objective: To demonstrate full extension of upper left and right arms on musical cue in 3 consecutive sessions.
Cognitive:
To learn multiplication.
Objective: To demonstrate accurate recall of multiplication facts 0-3 through song, rhythm, verbal statement, or combination, in 3 consecutive sessions.
Behavior:
To learn coping skills
Objective: To recall and demonstrate appropriate coping skills in song scenarios in 3 consecutive sessions.
Social:
To decrease interrupting
Objective: Client will hold a conversation with at least 3 exchanges without interrupting, in 3 consecutive sessions.
Emotional:
To increase appropriate expression of frustration or anger.
Objective: To appropriately express frustration or anger through instrument play or verbal statement in 50% of opportunities in 3 consecutive sessions.
Sensory:
To increase comfort with loud sounds.
Objective: To listen to sounds at mezzoforte dynamic level (Up to 79 dB) for 6, 10 second intervals in 3 consecutive sessions.
